Damascus Hosts First Session of “Together for Civil Peace and Social Cohesion” Project – August 16,2025

The first dialogue session of the “Together for Civil Peace and Social Cohesion” project was launched today in Damascus, organized by the Rights Defense Initiative in partnership with De Facto Organization. This session marks the beginning of a series of dialogues aimed at promoting the values of civil peace and community dialogue in Syria.

Session Themes:
Participants discussed several key themes, including:
1. The foundations of civil peace in Syria and ways to reinforce them in the current context.
2. Transitional Justice in Syria and its role in achieving social peace.
3. The Media and Social Media’s Role: In fostering community cohesion and supporting social peace.
The session brought together a select group of human rights activists, media professionals, and academics.
The project aims to open space for constructive dialogue among different segments of society, generate practical proposals to enhance coexistence, and shed light on the challenges that stand in the way of justice and reconciliation.
According to organizers, Rights Defense Initiative will continue hosting similar dialogue sessions in a number of Syrian cities and governorates, working with civil society partners to develop actionable recommendations that support social stability across the country.
