Damascus – [6 / 12 / 2025]

The final session of the “Together for Civil Peace and Social Cohesion” project, organized by the ” Rights Defense Initiative,” commenced this morning in the capital, Damascus. This session represents the culmination of a series of national dialogues that covered seven Syrian cities and regions, aiming to finalize recommendations and an executive roadmap for enhancing justice and stability.

The session brings together a host of activists, experts, media professionals, and human rights defenders who participated in the previous rounds, with the goal of analyzing and evaluating the collective outcomes achieved from Qamishli to Aleppo and Daraa.

Key Themes of the Final Session

The discussions in the final session are centered around three main themes, aiming to translate the visions gathered into concrete mechanisms for action:

  1. The role of civil society in civil peace and social cohesion.
  2. Transitional justice: Implementation mechanisms and guarantees.
  3. The role of official and unofficial media in producing responsible national discourse.

The session opened with a discussion on the first theme, focusing on “The role of civil society in civil peace and social cohesion.” Participants noted that the community links and bridges that began to form through these sessions in various regions are evidence of the immense potential of Syrian civil society.

The session will continue with its subsequent themes, with particular focus on how to implement the transitional justice recommendations emphasized by all governorates and defining the responsibility of the media in protecting civil peace and providing professional and transparent discourse instead of misleading and inflammatory rhetoric.
