“Together for Social Peace” Concludes Discussions on Transitional Justice in Damascus

The concluding session of the “Together for Social Peace and Community Cohesion” project, organized by the “Rights Defense Initiative,” concluded in Damascus its discussion of the second crucial topic, “Transitional Justice: Implementation Mechanisms and Guarantees.” This part of the session witnessed in-depth dialogue aimed at transforming the recommendations gathered from seven Syrian cities into a practical roadmap.

Discussions in the second topic focused on the challenges and mechanisms related to activating transitional justice within the Syrian context. The interventions covered key themes including:

• Transitional justice between acknowledgment and implementation, with a focus on the role of civil society in advancing this process.
• Proposed mechanisms for applying the project’s recommendations at governmental, community, and international levels.
• Community reconciliation mechanisms as a bridge to activating transitional justice, and the role of civil and governmental parties in this.
• Discussions on ways and mechanisms to support victims and activate their networks, with emphasis on the necessity of ensuring comprehensive and non-selective accountability.

Specialized Legal and Human Rights Participation
The topic featured an elite group of legal and human rights experts who presented their specialized visions on how to move forward with the transitional justice file. Prominent participants included:

• Zahra Barazi – Vice President of the Transitional Justice Body.
• Al-Mu’tasim Al-Kilani – Specialist in International Law.
• Khaled Ibrahim – Official in the Department of Foreign Relations in the Autonomous Administration.
• Orhan Kamal – Representative of the Victims’ Solidarity League.
• Zeno Zeno – Operations Director at the Gharsa Foundation.

The concluding session continues with the discussion of the third topic, which will address “The Role of Official and Unofficial Media in Producing Responsible National Discourse,” paving the way for formulating the project’s final recommendations and executive roadmap.
